Certification Process

Prerequisites & Requirements

Becoming a Certified CMMI Professional involves prerequisite training and passing the CMMI Professional exam. The exam is included in the training package, and can be scheduled one time for no additional cost.

*Before starting the process, confirm that your professional experience meets the qualifications for certification.

1. Take the Building Organizational Capability Course

   Register and complete the Building Organizational Capability Course 

2. Pass the CMMI Practictioner Exam

   The exam will be available to you following the Building Organizational Capability Course 

3. Take High Maturity Concepts Course

   Complete the High Maturity Concepts training course

4. Submit Application for Applying CMMI Course

   Complete the Applying CMMI application. You will be asked to choose one area of primary focus related to a CMMI model domain:

   • Data
   • Development
   • People
   • Safety
   • Security
   • Services
   • Suppliers
   • Virtual 

5. Take Advancing Organizational Capability: Applying CMMI Course

   Complete the Applying CMMI training course

6. Review for and Take the CMMI Professional Exam

   Review the following, which will be given to you in the prerequisite training courses:

   • Certified CMMI Professional Policy which includes the Professional Exam Content Outline (ECO)
   • Certified CMMI Professional Exam Sample Questions

   Upon passing the Applying CMMI course, you will receive instructions on how to schedule the CMMI Professional Exam one time for no added cost (if taken within 30 days of completion of the course). Instructions for scheduling your exam with PSI are within the CMMI Professional Policy.

7. Market and Maintain Your Certification

   After passing the exam, you will earn the role of Certified CMMI Professional. You should market your achievement accordingly by printing your certificate and adding the certification to your email signature or credentials on LinkedIn and other social media pages.
   
   Your role as a Certified CMMI Professional is valid for three years. Renewing your certification requires retaking the Professional Exam every three years.
