CMMI Institute

Certification Candidates

Once a candidate has successfully completed Lead Appraiser Training or CMMI Instructor Training course, they will follow these steps to schedule and complete their observation.

Certification Process

  1. Pass Lead Appraiser Training/CMMI Instructor Training

Once you have successfully completed the training course, you will be ready to be observed.

If you are a Lead Appraiser candidate, you will need to take the Lead Appraiser Certification Exam and you will be registered for this exam after you receive the results from the Lead Appraiser Training cousre.

  2. Locate an observation opportunity

Discuss with your customers potential observation opportunities as soon as possible.

Click here to view the minimum observed appraisal requirements for Lead Appraisers.

  3. Complete the Observation Request Form

The Observation Request Form must be submitted to the ISACA at least 90 days before the onsite portion of the appraisal or training course. You must list three potential dates for the observation as well as hotel suggestions for the observer. Return the completed form electronically to [email protected].
  4. Finding an observer

ISACA receives the form, ISACA will begin searching for an available observer. ISACA will try to find an observer that speaks the language used during the appraisal/training course and someone that is local to the site. If an observer is not available that speaks the language, an interpreter will need to be provided by the candidate.

  5. Scheduling the observation

Once the observation location, date, and observer has been confirmed, the next step will be to confirm that there is no conflict of interest between the observer and the candidate, the sponsoring organization, or the organization that is being appraised/trained. Once that has been completed, the responsibility for communication and planning with the candidate shifts to the observer.

  6. Good Faith Estimate

As of 2021, observations are currently billed at flat rates for virtual observation and flat rate plus travel expenses for in person observations. The GFE will be sent to the Candidate and the BPOC of their sponsoring organization for approval.

  7. Good Faith Estimate Approval

The sponsoring organization will be billed for the observation in the month the observation occurs.

  8. After the observation

After the observation has been completed the observer will send the observation report to ISACA for review. If the observation was in person, the observer will also submit their final expenses and ISACA Finance will address any additional travel expenses with the BPOC at that time.

  9. Receive your certification

Once the appraisal record has been through quality review/attendee list is submitted and accepted and the observation report submitted and reviewed by the observer, the candidate will receive their certificate, have full access to the PRC, and be able to setup appraisals in the Appraisal System/teach
    future classes.
