SPEAKER PRESENTATION

Capability and Capacity: Which Do You Need to Improve, and When?

Conference Track: Creative Approaches to CMMI Adoption

Business people often think of capability and capacity as almost the same thing, while others think of capability and capacity as mutually exclusive. In this presentation, Michael West provides working definitions that distinguish the two, as well as real-world examples that will help the audience to understand the real relationship between capability and capacity. This session includes examples and stories from executives and practitioners that illustrate an organization's need to improve capability vs capacity, or when to improve both. This presentation is intended to start conversations about the need for future versions of the CMMI to include practice areas that improve capacity.
