Kathryn Merrill, Sr. Lean Sigma Manager, reports to the VP of Corporate Quality at Medtronic.  In FY14 She led the global First Time Quality (FTQ) Playbook development team and for the past 4 years has been responsible for FTQ Program Deployment across Medtronic.
 
Kathryn has more than 20 years of improvement experience at Medtronic. Over this time, she has held progressive roles in Process engineering, Development engineering and Quality management. Kathryn is a Master Black Belt with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Arizona State University and is certified as a professional coach.

This presentation will include an overview of the “Building and Sustaining Capability” Capability Area (CA), how these practices are adopted, applied to an organization’s or project’s processes, and how key terms such as “persistence and habit”, “process role” and “organization and in-scope projects” are critical to building and sustaining performance improvement.

Presentation will provide insight into the lessons learned and experiences of a Medtronic Manager who participated as an embedded team member during a recent CMMI MDDAP appraisal. This appraisal was completed as part of the FDA Case for Quality pilot program at the Medtronic site in Galway, Ireland.
