About

Becky Fitzgerald is Principal and Co-Founder of Two Harbors Consulting, where she provides executive consulting services worldwide specializing in highly regulated industries.

Becky’s extensive experience ranges from consulting with large and complex defense, government, corporate and academic environments to coaching small start-ups and agile teams. In the 90’s she launched and ran the largest independent U.S. dermatopathology lab forging the first partnership with Federal Express defining specimen handling and transport standards. In the 2000’s, she designed and launched the first anatomic pathology system addressing automated positive patient identification for all specimens, slides, and whole slide images reducing specimen swap rates to zero. She consults globally in technology forecasting and adoption; workflows, value streams, operations, data management; and business performance evolution. Becky supported the first medical device company to achieve CMMI Maturity Level 5 and led the Proof of Concept and Pilot appraisals for MDIC’s quality model program.

Becky began her career as a laboratory scientist at the University of MN and is now a Certified CMMI Lead Appraiser, Instructor, and Enterprise Data Management Expert with expertise in laboratory regulations, insurance and government reimbursement rules, code and data set management and transaction requirements, life science workflows, and medical device development. Becky holds a Master of Science in Management of Technology from the University of MN, and a B.A. from Macalester College.

How does VSM increase an appraisal’s value? Offering an introduction, background, and stories from the field to contribute to your set up and execution of a sample exercise. Learn about this effective and useful technique to help even the most challenged environments get past interpersonal, organizational, and work habit challenges to see how work flows (or doesn’t!) through their systems. Attendees who attend will learn to:
  • plan and prepare for conducting an impactful Value Stream Mapping workshop
  • overcome typical sticking points and keep the information flowing
  • capture measures for use in evaluating current and future system performance
  • create guides and job-aids leveraging those provided in the workshop
Level and Orientation of the Audience, including Prerequisites (All Levels, No Prerequisites): This tutorial is useful for any organization curious about how to leverage Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to provide a high-level map of their system(s), a practical approach to gaining a common understanding across stakeholders, and a pragmatic solution to drawing silo’d thinking up to a systems viewpoint. VSM may also be used a highly effective entre activity leading into an appraisal.
